Farm Life – March 2023 Update

March 2023 – Wet Weather on the Farm

It’s been very wet — over 900mm of rain since January 1st! The farm is ankle-deep in mud in all the essential places — the goat pen and the chook house. The poor goats refuse to get their feet wet, so they’ve been shed-bound for weeks now. George occasionally ventures out, but Timtam just shouts from the deck for food!

The banana tree fell with the weight of the fruit and wet soil, so the bunches are ripening in the shed. The macadamia trees, however, are thriving. The grass is now 2m tall, making it hard to find pumpkins hiding underneath!

The ducks and geese are loving the constant rain, while the chickens look bedraggled — they’re also moulting. We had to order a truckload of gravel to escape the mud. On a brighter note, the Feijoas are fruiting for the first time, the pomegranates are stunning, and the Rosella teas are back in stock after a big harvest!
